The Lithgow & District Family History Society Inc has a collection of Sydney Morning Herald papers from 1880 to 1898. With the release of the Sydney Morning Herald on Trove, their copies are no longer being used for research purposes, and they have had to make some serious decisions in regard to the space, or lack of space for resources on their library shelves.
These are bound copies and the newspapers are in good condition, though some of the leather covers for the first ten years have deterioration due to age and less than ideal storage conditions. Due to lack of space on their library shelves, the Society would like to find a new home for them, rather than
consign them to the local recycling centre. The entire collection would require approx 4 metres of shelf space.
There are 4 volumes for each year, bound in quarters i.e. January to March etc. and each volume weighs approximately 10 kg.
Alternatively, you may wish to acquire one or more volumes of the collection for display or other purposes, and you may nominate the Year/Months you would prefer. Your Society or group would be responsible for the cost of collection or freight.
The final decision to break up the collection will be made by thir Committee by 30 April 2014, and requests for individual Volumes will be dealt with on a “first come, first served basis”.
If your Society or group would like to acquire the entire collection, please contact The Secretary, PO Box 516, Lithgow or ldfhs@lisp.com.au
Good news! The newspapers have been accepted by the Ferguson Memorial Library. They will be picking them up from Lithgow & District Family History Society next week. Thanks for posting their email Wal!
